What I love about auroras is that they cannot be predicted very well. Shape, color, time and direction are all unknowns and that makes it so mysterious for me.
Last night I was out with a friend and we saw ‘only’ a green band on the horizon. I came back after midnight and just as I was about to sleep I had one last look. Wow, the sky was lit up by strong aurora needles. My eyes saw weak green but I knew that the camera would pick up some red or purple. I ran inside and grabbed my gear. Enjoy the photos which I took just with my PJ’s on 🙂
Green arc on the horizon, lights of Oulu on the right.
A few nights back I was out searching for auroras and found them. It was only the fourth time of this year, so I felt I found something I’ve lost. Back home I tried to copy the photos from the memory card and I couldn’t do it. The card was damaged and the photos lost – until today.
One of the recovery programs finally worked and here are a few photos from that night.
A barn in bright moonlight with auroras at the horizon.
A view of the field. The gras and snow created a pattern I love
It has been so long time cloudy this year here in Oulu. Only a few days with sunlight and mostly I didn’t have time to go out with my camera. All that is forgotten now.
Today I finally had a (short) chance to see a nice sunset and try out some new filters. Man, I feel so good, I’ve been missing to be out with my camera really a lot!
As there wasn’t much time, I just went to the beach nearby trying to get a few frames. This winter was so warm that there wasn’t much snow left except on the Baltic Sea. So after some hectic photos in the beginning I started to work with the snow leftovers. Hope you like the photos 🙂
Sunset on March 12, 2014 at Kiviniemi beach, just South of Oulu.
About 30 minutes later, last bit of snow with last bits of the sunset
